Cavaliers and Heat regular season game recap

During Monday evening’s match, the Cleveland Cavaliers achieved a victory over the Miami Heat 125-119 at home in Cleveland, OH at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. All players on the Cavaliers were active for the game. At the same time, Inactive players for the Heat included Jimmy Butler. The win brings the Cavaliers to 1-3 in the series versus the Heat and to 16-41 in the regular season.

For the Cavaliers, Kevin Love gained 17 points, although he had trouble with his shot, going 4/13 (30.8%) from the field in 37:54. Additionally, Love also managed to grab a decent team-high 14 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Darius Garland got 14 points in 39:42, going 5/12 (41.7%) from the field. In addition, Garland also dished out a team-high 7 assists and had 5 rebounds. Kevin Porter Jr. got an elegant team-high 30 points, shooting 9/18 (50.0%) from the field and 4/7 (57.1%) from three in 40:41. In addition to points, Porter Jr. also managed to grab 8 rebounds and grabbed 3 steals. Other noteworthy efforts were made by Andre Drummond (who added 5 rebounds), Tristan Thompson (who scored an elegant 15 points and managed to pull down 9 rebounds), and Larry Nance Jr. (who recorded an elegant 16 points and managed to pull down 8 rebounds).

On the Heat, Bam Adebayo gained a team-high 22 points in 40:58, scoring 9/15 (60.0%) from the field. Goran Dragic got a team-high 22 points in 34:07, scoring 7/16 (43.8%) from the field. Dragic also made 6 assists. Other significant contributors were Derrick Jones Jr. (who added 7 rebounds),Kelly Olynyk (who got 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists),Duncan Robinson (who scored 15 points),Kendrick Nunn (who recorded 21 points and made 4 assists), Jae Crowder (who scored 16 points and managed to pull down 9 rebounds), and Andre Iguodala (who got 4 blocks and had 4 assists).

1st Quarter

The Cavaliers had a rough go at the beginning of the 1st Quarter, scoring 3/8 from the field and 2/4 from deep in the first half of the quarter for a total of 10 points. Power Forward Kevin Love was included in those who had issues at the start of the quarter, shooting 1/3 from the field and 1/2 from three for 5 points. Power Forward Kevin Love recorded 5 points and added 3 rebounds. On the other hand, the Heat had no issues in the beginning, shooting 7/12 from the field and 3/5 from three for a total of 18 points. Shooting Guard Duncan Robinson was a critical contributor in this good start for the Heat as he had 6 points on 2/2 shooting (2/2 from the three point mark). In addition to his points, Robinson also added 1 assist and added 1 rebound. Center Bam Adebayo had 5 points, passed out 1 assist, pulled off 1 block, swiped 1 steal, and added 2 rebounds.

Following the bad start to the 1st Quarter, the Cavaliers continued to struggle to close out the period, recording 11 points while going 4/13 from the field and 3/6 from three. The Heat also struggled while closing out the period, scoring 11 points on 3/14 shooting (1/6 from the three point mark). The 1st Quarter closed with the Cavaliers down by 8 points (21-29). Bam Adebayo was the largest contributor of the quarter, scoring 7 points. On the Cavaliers, Kevin Porter Jr. scored 6 points.

2nd Quarter

The 2nd Quarter launched with the Cavaliers having trouble getting things going, going 4/10 from the field and 1/4 from three in the first half of the quarter for a total of 18 points. Small Forward Cedi Osman was among those who had a sluggish start to the quarter, shooting 0/1 from the field and 0/1 from the three point mark for no points. Power Forward Kevin Love added 5 points and added 1 block. Kevin Porter Jr. added 5 points. Conversely, the Heat performed well in the beginning, scoring 7/10 from the field and 4/5 from three for a total of 20 points. Shooting Guard Duncan Robinson was an important player in this excellent start for the Heat as he added 9 points on 3/4 shooting (3/3 from three).

Despite the bad start to the 2nd Quarter, the Cavaliers improved significantly to round out the quarter, adding 17 points while going 7/15 from the field and 1/3 from the three point mark. The Heat also faced no issues while finishing up the period, recording 19 points on 7/12 shooting (4/6 from three). The 2nd Quarter finished with the Cavaliers down by 12 points (56-68). Duncan Robinson was the most substantial contributor of the quarter, scoring 9 points. On the Cavaliers, Kevin Love scored 7 points.

3rd Quarter

The 3rd Quarter opened with the Cavaliers struggling to get things going, recording 3/8 from the field and 3/7 from deep in the first half of the quarter for a total of 9 points. Center Andre Drummond was one player who floundered at the beginning of the quarter, shooting 1/3 from the field and 1/2 from the three point mark for 3 points. Shooting Guard Collin Sexton gained 6 points. Conversely, the Heat had little trouble at the start of the quarter, shooting 7/9 from the field and 2/2 from three for a total of 16 points. Point Guard Kendrick Nunn was a critical contributor in this hot start for the Heat as he got 8 points on 3/3 shooting (2/2 from three). In addition to his points, Nunn also made 1 assist.

Following the slow start to the 3rd Quarter, the Cavaliers continued to show more of the same to round off the period, scoring 15 points while going 5/13 from the field and 2/6 from three. The Heat, simultaneously, had no trouble finishing up the period, recording 15 points on 6/10 shooting (0/3 from deep). The 3rd Quarter ended with the Cavaliers trailing the Heat by 19 points (80-99). Kendrick Nunn was the main contributor of the quarter, scoring 12 points. On the Cavaliers, Collin Sexton scored 10 points.

4th Quarter

Trailing the Heat, the Cavaliers were persistent as they went 7/9 from the field and 0/2 from three in the first half of the quarter for a total of 19 points. Larry Nance Jr. was a crucial player in this solid start as he got 8 points on 4/4 shooting (0/0 from three). Nance Jr. also added 1 steal in addition to his points. Tristan Thompson gained 5 points, dished out 2 assists, and managed to grab 4 rebounds. In comparison, the Heat struggled at the start of the period, making 1/11 from the field and 1/8 from three for a total of 3 points. Jae Crowder was one player on the Heat who had a slow start to the quarter, shooting 1/5 from the field and 1/4 from the three point mark for 3 points. Jae Crowder gained 3 points.

Despite the decent start to the 4th Quarter, the Cavaliers had trouble scoring to wrap up the period, adding 12 points while going 4/10 from the field and 2/4 from deep. The Heat also struggled while finishing up the period, recording 9 points on 4/9 shooting (0/3 from deep). The 4th Quarter ended with the Cavaliers and the Heat tied up at 111-111. Kevin Porter Jr. was the biggest contributor of the quarter, scoring 11 points. On the Heat, Bam Adebayo scored 4 points.
