Cavaliers and Magic regular season game recap

During Monday evening’s game, the Cleveland Cavaliers were overwhelmed by the Orlando Magic 83-103 away at the Amway Center in Orlando, FL. Darius Garland was out for the Cavaliers. Simultaneously, No players on the Magic were inactive for the game. The victory brings the Cavaliers to 0-1 in the series versus the Magic and to 4-3 in the regular season.

For the Cavaliers, Andre Drummond added 10 points, although he had trouble making baskets, shooting 5/14 (35.7%) from the field in 32:13. In addition to his points, Drummond also got an impressive team-high 13 rebounds and had 4 assists. Collin Sexton boasted a team-high 24 points in 38:51, scoring 10/19 (52.6%) from the field. Cedi Osman boasted 18 points in 38:27, shooting 6/14 (42.9%) from the field and 4/8 (50.0%) from three. Additionally, Osman also pulled down 7 rebounds and had a team-high 7 assists. Other major contributors were Damyean Dotson (who got 16 points), Thon Maker (who managed to grab 5 rebounds), and Lamar Stevens (who swiped 3 steals).

On the Magic, Aaron Gordon got a team-high 24 points, scoring 9/17 (52.9%) from the field and 6/9 (66.7%) from three in 27:55. Gordon also managed to pull down an admirable 11 rebounds. Markelle Fultz had 6 points, although he had trouble shooting, going 3/9 (33.3%) from the field in 31:00. Fultz also got a team-high 8 assists and managed to grab 5 rebounds. Khem Birch got 12 points in 22:53, shooting 5/7 (71.4%) from the field. In addition to points, Birch also got an admirable team-high 12 rebounds. Additional significant contributions were made by Nikola Vucevic (who boasted 23 points, managed to pull down an admirable 8 rebounds, and added 3 blocks), Gary Clark (who managed to pull down an admirable 5 rebounds), Terrence Ross (who scored 15 points and added 4 steals), and Cole Anthony (who got an admirable 5 rebounds and had 4 assists).

1st Quarter

The 1st Quarter started off with the Cavaliers struggling to get things going, scoring 2/7 from the field and 1/3 from the three point mark in the first half of the quarter for a total of 5 points. Small Forward Damyean Dotson was included in those who struggled starting the quarter, shooting 0/1 from the field and 0/1 from deep for no points. Cedi Osman scored 3 points and had 1 steal. At the same time, the Magic had little trouble at the start of the quarter, scoring 6/13 from the field and 3/5 from the three point mark for a total of 15 points. Power Forward Aaron Gordon was a valuable player in this reasonable start for the Magic as he recorded 8 points on 3/6 shooting (2/3 from deep). Furthermore, Gordon also had 1 steal and managed to grab 6 rebounds. Small Forward Dwayne Bacon recorded 5 points, dished out 1 assist, got 1 steal, and managed to grab 1 rebound.

Despite the poor start to the 1st Quarter, the Cavaliers polished up their shooting to round out the quarter, recording 14 points while going 6/11 from the field and 0/1 from the three point mark. The Magic, at the same time, struggled while closing up the period, scoring 11 points on 4/13 shooting (1/5 from the three point mark). The 1st Quarter closed with the Cavaliers down by 7 points (19-26). Collin Sexton was the biggest contributor of the quarter, scoring 8 points. On the Magic, Aaron Gordon scored 8 points.

2nd Quarter

The 2nd Quarter opened unexceptionally as the Cavaliers shot 6/10 from the field and 3/5 from deep in the first half of the quarter for a total of 15 points. Small Forward Damyean Dotson was an important player in this good start as he gained 8 points on 3/3 shooting (2/2 from three). The Magic performed well as well in the beginning, scoring 6/12 from the field and 3/4 from deep for a total of 15 points. Center Nikola Vucevic was a critical contributor in this decent start for the Magic as he got 5 points on 2/3 shooting (1/1 from three). Vucevic also passed out 1 assist in addition to his points. Terrence Ross was also a crucial player in the beginning of the quarter, recorded 5 points while shooting 2/4 (1/2 from deep).Additionally, Ross also added 1 steal.

Following the dependable start to the 2nd Quarter, the Cavaliers continued to show more of the same to round off the period, adding 15 points while going 7/11 from the field and 1/4 from the three point mark. The Magic, at the same time, had issues closing out the period, scoring 10 points on 4/10 shooting (0/2 from three). The 2nd Quarter ended with the Cavaliers down by 2 points (49-51). Nikola Vucevic was the main contributor of the quarter, scoring 11 points. On the Cavaliers, Damyean Dotson scored 8 points.

3rd Quarter

The 3rd Quarter initiated with the Cavaliers having trouble getting things going, recording 3/11 from the field and 2/5 from deep in the first half of the quarter for a total of 10 points. Center Andre Drummond was included in those who had a sluggish start to the quarter, shooting 1/5 from the field and 0/0 from deep for 2 points. Point Guard Collin Sexton recorded 5 points and managed to grab 2 rebounds. In comparison, the Magic had little trouble at the start of the period, scoring 6/10 from the field and 3/5 from deep for a total of 16 points. Power Forward Aaron Gordon was a key contributor in this decent start for the Magic as he scored 13 points on 5/5 shooting (3/3 from the three point mark).

After the bad start to the 3rd Quarter, the Cavaliers continued the effort to close out the period, adding 8 points while going 3/11 from the field and 1/3 from the three point mark. The Magic, meanwhile, faced no issues while closing up the period, boasting 22 points on 8/12 shooting (3/5 from three). The 3rd Quarter finished with the Cavaliers down by 22 points (67-89). Aaron Gordon was the largest contributor of the quarter, scoring 13 points. On the Cavaliers, Collin Sexton scored 7 points.

4th Quarter

The Cavaliers had a rough go at the start of the 4th Quarter, recording 4/13 from the field and 1/3 from the three point mark in the first half of the quarter for a total of 9 points. Lamar Stevens was one of the players who had a sluggish start to the quarter, shooting 1/4 from the field and 0/0 from the three point mark for 2 points. Point Guard Collin Sexton got 3 points. The Magic had trouble in similar fashion in the first half of the quarter, making 3/9 from the field and 1/4 from three for a total of 9 points. Cole Anthony was one player on the Magic who had a sluggish start to the quarter, shooting 0/4 from the field and 0/1 from deep for 2 points. Center Nikola Vucevic recorded 4 points.

After the mediocre start to the 4th Quarter, the Cavaliers continued the effort to round out the period, gaining 7 points while going 2/11 from the field and 1/4 from three. The Magic also had trouble closing up the period, recording 5 points on 1/9 shooting (1/4 from deep). The Cavaliers lost to the Magic 83-103. Lamar Stevens was the main contributor of the quarter, scoring 6 points. On the Magic, Nikola Vucevic scored 4 points.
