Cavaliers and Grizzlies regular season game recap

During Thursday evening’s game, the Cleveland Cavaliers came away with a victory against the Memphis Grizzlies 94-90 away in Memphis, TN at the FedExForum. Inactive players for the Cavaliers included Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. Simultaneously, Inactive players for the Grizzlies included John Konchar. The victory brings the Cavaliers to 1-0 in the series vs. the Grizzlies and to 5-4 in the regular season.

For the Cavaliers, Cedi Osman boasted 16 points in 38:09, although he had trouble making his shot fall, scoring 6/19 (31.6%) from the field. In addition, Osman also added a team-high 7 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds. Andre Drummond recorded a team-high 22 points, scoring 9/20 (45.0%) from the field in 37:21. In addition to his points, Drummond also added a solid team-high 15 rebounds. Additional major performers were Larry Nance Jr. (who boasted 18 points, had 4 assists, and had 3 steals),Damyean Dotson (who had 6 assists and had 3 steals), and JaVale McGee (who managed to pull down a solid 6 rebounds).

On the Grizzlies, Jonas Valanciunas recorded a team-high 17 points in 27:32, going 6/11 (54.5%) from the field. In addition to his points, Valanciunas also added a decent team-high 10 rebounds. Tyus Jones gained 9 points, scoring 4/9 (44.4%) from the field in 26:47. Jones also dished a team-high 6 assists. Additional notable performances included Kyle Anderson (who managed to grab 8 rebounds),Brandon Clarke (who had 8 rebounds),Dillon Brooks (who passed out 4 assists), Desmond Bane (who got 6 rebounds), De’Anthony Melton (who swiped 3 steals), and Grayson Allen (who grabbed 3 steals).

1st Quarter

The Cavaliers struggled at the beginning of the 1st Quarter, recording 4/13 from the field and 3/7 from the three point mark in the first half of the quarter for a total of 11 points. Center Andre Drummond was among those who struggled starting the quarter, shooting 0/4 from the field and 0/0 from three for no points. Small Forward Cedi Osman gained 8 points and pulled down 1 rebound. The Grizzlies had trouble as well at the start of the quarter, scoring 3/8 from the field and 0/2 from three for a total of 7 points. Power Forward Brandon Clarke was among those on the Grizzlies who had trouble contributing at the start of the quarter, shooting 2/3 from the field and 0/0 from the three point mark for 4 points. Power Forward Brandon Clarke got 4 points and managed to pull down 4 rebounds.

After the sluggish start to the 1st Quarter, the Cavaliers continued the poor shooting effort to close out the quarter, scoring 8 points while going 4/10 from the field and 0/2 from deep. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, had no trouble closing out the period, recording 17 points on 7/15 shooting (3/8 from deep). The 1st Quarter closed with the Cavaliers trailing the Grizzlies by 5 points (19-24). Cedi Osman was the most substantial contributor of the quarter, scoring 8 points. On the Grizzlies, Grayson Allen scored 6 points.

2nd Quarter

The 2nd Quarter started off with a remarkable scoring effort as the Cavaliers shot 6/8 from the field and 4/4 from the three point mark in the first half of the quarter for a total of 16 points. Power Forward Larry Nance Jr. was a major player in this hot start as he scored 5 points on 2/2 shooting (1/1 from three). Nance Jr. also got 1 assist in addition to his points. Likewise, the Grizzlies also had no issues in the beginning, making 4/8 from the field and 1/2 from three for a total of 9 points. Power Forward Brandon Clarke was a key contributor in this decent start for the Grizzlies as he boasted 4 points on 2/3 shooting (0/0 from deep).

Despite the sound start to the 2nd Quarter, the Cavaliers struggled shooting to close out the quarter, scoring 11 points while going 4/12 from the field and 2/6 from three. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, had no trouble finishing up the period, recording 12 points on 6/11 shooting (0/4 from the three point mark). The 2nd Quarter closed with the Cavaliers up by 1 point (46-45). Brandon Clarke was the main contributor of the quarter, scoring 8 points. On the Cavaliers, Isaac Okoro scored 6 points.

3rd Quarter

The 3rd Quarter was set off with no major issues as the Cavaliers went 5/11 from the field and 1/4 from three in the first half of the quarter for a total of 12 points. Center Andre Drummond was an important contributor in this good start as he recorded 9 points on 4/6 shooting (0/0 from deep). In addition, Drummond also pulled down 1 rebound. In like manner, the Grizzlies also had little trouble at the start of the quarter, making 7/12 from the field and 3/5 from three for a total of 17 points. Shooting Guard Dillon Brooks was a major player in this decent start for the Grizzlies as he scored 7 points on 3/3 shooting (1/1 from deep). Brooks also made 1 assist, added 1 block, had 1 steal, and got 1 rebound in addition to points. Center Jonas Valanciunas added 5 points and managed to pull down 1 rebound.

After the reasonable start to the 3rd Quarter, the Cavaliers continued to show more of the same to finish the period, scoring 9 points while going 3/6 from the field and 1/2 from deep. The 4th Quarter was set off with no major issues as the Cavaliers went 4/7 from the field and 0/1 from deep in the first half of the quarter for a total of 11 points. Center Andre Drummond was an important contributor in this good start as he gained 7 points on 2/3 shooting (0/0 from deep). In addition to points, Drummond also dished 1 assist and had 3 rebounds. The Grizzlies had no issues in similar fashion in the first half of the quarter, making 5/9 from the field and 2/3 from three for a total of 14 points. Small Forward Kyle Anderson was a major player in this reasonable start for the Grizzlies as he had 8 points on 3/4 shooting (2/3 from three). In addition to his points, Anderson also made 1 block.

Following the sound start to the 4th Quarter, the Cavaliers continued the performance to wrap up the quarter, gaining 16 points while going 6/12 from the field and 2/4 from deep. The Grizzlies, concurrently, had problems closing up the period, scoring 7 points on 2/8 shooting (1/4 from deep). The Cavaliers won against the Grizzlies 94-90. Andre Drummond was the most substantial contributor of the quarter, scoring 9 points. On the Grizzlies, Kyle Anderson scored 8 points.
